This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 764805.

EU HEROES is strengthening community-owned Photovoltaic (PV) systems by developing viable business models that address the concerns of network operators.

The project plans to work with communities and network operators to develop approaches that will enable subsidy-free solar PV projects that have a neutral or positive impact on network management.

The project is identifying and developing social enterprise models, carrying out cost-benefit analysis and economic feasibility assessment, developing business models and removing key barriers to community PV.

If successful, EU HORES will enable increased deployment of solar PV in grid-constrained areas. It will support PV community groups by helping them store, utilise, aggregate and trade solar electricity within localities, and simply export excess energy to the grid. Finally, it will empower citizens to have greater ownership over their energy supply, democratising energy and providing profits from energy generation to the host communities.
